Taxis
Playing one of the key roles in Hong Kong public transport, TAXIs provide a convenient
personalized point-to-point transport service. At present there are 18,138 taxis in Hong Kong, of
which 15,250 are
Urban taxis, 2,838 are Rural New Territory taxis and 50 are Lantau taxis. The
average daily taxi patronage is about 1 million.

Urban taxis
The red and silver URBAN TAXIS
operate throughout Hong Kong including
the airport and Hong Kong Disneyland,
(except Tung Chung Road and roads in
south Lantau).

Urban Taxi fares are HK$18 for the first
2 kilometres and HK$1.50 for every 200
metres thereafter, until the meter hits
HK$70.50. Every 200 metres thereafter
is charged at HK$1.00 only.
The green and white NEW TERRITORY
TAXIS
are fundamentally confined to
rural areas in the New Territories, the
airport AND Hong Kong Disneyland but
are permitted to serve certain locations
in the urban area through specified
routes.

NT Taxi fares are HK$14.50 for the first
2 kilometres and HK$1.30 for every 200
metres thereafter until the meter hits
HK$53.50. Every subsequent 200
metres is charged at HK$1.00

Though cheaper, more fuel efficient and bigger, the Ford Falcon Stationcar never made big inroads as a Hong Kong taxi.

Lantau Taxis
Blue and white LANTAU TAXIS operate
only on Lantau Island (including the
airport and Hong Kong Disneyland).

Lantau Taxi fares are HK$13.00 for the
first 2 kilometres and HK$1.30 for every
200 metres thereafter until the meter
hits HK$130. Every subsequent 200
metres is charged at HK$1.20.
