Today’s adventure begins the moment we board our sampan from Aberdeen to the tiny hamlet of Mo Tat Wan as we enjoy the sights and sounds of Aberdeen's busy fishing harbour from the open deck of our little boat.
Once on Lamma, we pass vegetable plots and a number of small villages before reaching the beach at Tung O Wan. Here we embark on the biggest challenge of the day, the 250m tall Ling Kok Shan. It might be a hot climb, but the views from the top are spectacular – and we will take it easy.
The only negative thing is that what goes up must come down and the descent from Ling Kok Shan does involve an awful lot of steps…
Slightly “jelly-kneed” we head for a tranquil and secluded beach for a swim, refreshments – and perhaps a shower – before ending our walk at one of the restaurants at Picnic Bay (or Sok Kwu Wan as it’s now called).
Ferries leave Sok Kwu Wan for Hong Kong island at reasonable intervals, so feel free to make this a full day out.
Snack stop atop Ling Kok Shan (4 km). Refreshments on the beach (9 km) (Optional) lunch at Chinese seafood restaurant at Sok Kwu Wan (10.5 km) - not included.
Note 1:
It is also possible to finish the outing by taking a ferry directly to Hong Kong's Central district.
