Lamma's Other Side
(The Full Monty)
Today’s adventure begins the moment we board our sampan from Aberdeen to the tiny hamlet of Mo Tat Wan, where we climb a little hill to
join the southern (less used) part of the Lamma Family Walk. Passing vegetable plots we drop down to the beach at Tung O Wan before
embarking on the biggest challenge of the day, the 250m tall Ling Kok Shan.
The view from the top is spectacular – and we will take it easy. The only negative thing is that what goes up must come down! Consequently,
the descent from Ling Kok Shan does involve an awful lot of steps down the mountain. Though ”jelly-kneed” we will, regretfully, pass on the
temptations of the Sok Kwu Wan seafood restaurants to settle for a cool refreshment in the nearby hamlet of Lo So Shing…
There’s a bit of climbing to do after this break, but it is nowhere near as challenging as earlier. Heading northwards via path less trodden, we
visit the sight of Hong Kong’s only windturbine – from where there’s a great panorama… Our route will take us all the way to the northern tip
of the island, before we complete our hike by the pier in the island’s capital, Yung Shue Wan, previously known as a haven for people
preferring a more alternative lifestyle…
As ferries depart Yung Shue Wan regularly for Hong Kong island, we suggest ending the outing with a late, but well-deserved meal at a
waterfront restaurant here…
