Millionaires, Fishermen and Hippies (Hansen's Hikes' Peak-Aberdeen-Lamma Combo)
Exploring 3 very different sides of life in Hong Kong in one long day, this tour starts with a bus ride along winding roads from the Central Business District up to the ultimate Hong Kong address, The Peak. Look out for some impressive mansions along the way.
At The Peak we will join the Hong Kong trail to take in the spectacular views over Victoria Harbour, Kowloon and the mountains beyond. Our path then drops down past High West, with great views over the West Lamma and Sulphur Channels, before reaching the tranquil Pokfulam Reservoir.
Close to the reservoir dam, we hop on a bus for the short but scenic ride to the busy harbour of Aberdeen, where we will stop for lunch at a tiny back street restaurant serving the best dumplings in the country – be that fried, steamed or in soup...
After lunch, we continue our exploration of Hong Kong's other side. Enjoying the sights and sounds of Aberdeen's busy fishing harbour, we catch a small boat over to the tiny hamlet of Mo Tat Wan on the island of Lamma.
Here we will pass vegetable plots and a number of small villages before reaching the beach at Tung O Wan, where we embark on the biggest challenge of the day, the 250m tall Ling Kok Shan. It might be a bit of a climb, but the view from the top is simply spectacular – and we will take it easy.
The only negative thing is that what goes up must come down and the descent from Ling Kok Shan does involve an awful lot of steps…
Slightly “jelly-kneed” we head for a refreshment stop at Picnic Bay, before completing our marathon some 45 minutes later in Lamma's capitol, Yung Shue Wan - home to Hong Kong's more "alternative" inhabitants...
Ferries leave Yung Shue Wan for the central Hong Kong every 45-60 minutes, so you must feel free to chill out at one of the many bars here or even stay for dinner...
